CANADA VISA REQUIREMENTS

What are the requirements of VISA to study in Canada?

To study in Canada, you would need a Study Permit. The application for study permit to Canada can be done online or through a paper application. Refer to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp – for information on Citizenship and Immigration.

A student VISA in Canada is called the Study Permit.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada is the department responsible for immigration to Canada. You can learn about your eligibility and requirements from the website of Consulate Immigration, Refugees. Fees for the Canadian VISA: The fee for the study permit is CAD$150. Before you begin the application process, you will have to provide the following:

  • a letter of acceptance from an educational institution in Canada;
  • proof of identity (citizens of certain countries may be required to provide biometric information in addition to paper documents);
  • proof of financial support;
  • a letter of explanation.

Before you apply for a study permit, you need the following:

You also must do the following:

  • show proof that you have enough money to pay for your:
    • tuition fees
    • living expenses for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada and
    • return transportation for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada
  • be a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record and not be a risk to the security of Canada. You may have to provide a police certificate.
  • be in good health. You may need to complete a medical exam.
  • convince an immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your studies.

Documents for a study permit to Canada

Proof of Acceptance: a copy of your acceptance letter from a designated learning institution

Proof of identity: A valid passport of you and every family member who will travel with you to Canada. Two passport size photographs with the name and date of birth of the person written on the backside.

Proof of financial support:

A proof that you have sufficient funds to complete your study successfully which would include tuition and living expenses and airfare to return home. You need to show that you have a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of $10,000.

  • proof that you’ve paid the tuition fees for your first year of study, and
  • proof of a student/education loan from a bank
  • your bank statements for the past four months
  • a bank draft that can be converted to Canadian dollars
  • proof you paid tuition and housing fees
  • a letter from the person or school giving you money or
  • proof of funding paid from within Canada, if you have a scholarship or are in a Canadian-funded educational program.

Proof of sound health

  • a copy of your upfront medical exam confirmation document
  • Proof of English Proficiency
  • proof that you graduated from a Canadian curriculum high school or a language test form showing a
    • score of at least 6 in the International English Language Testing System.
