1. What is the fees of the IELTS exam from the British Council / IDP?

The registration fee for the IELTS exam in India is Rs.14,000.

2. How can I apply for IELTS ?

The IELTS EXAM (PBT) is conducted 4 times a month and the Computer-Delivered IELTS is conducted more number of times. It is administered by both the British Council and the IDP. In order to apply for an IELTS test , you can log on to either the British Council or IDP website and apply for the test online. 3. How many times can I take IELTS?

IELTS can be taken as many times as one pleases. There is no limit to the number of IELTS tests that one can take. However, you will need to pay the test fees for each attempt that you take.

4. What is meant by a good score in IELTS?

The good score in IELTS exam depends on the purpose of writing the test.

IELTS is generally taken for immigration or to study overseas.

If you have taken the IELTS test for immigration, then a good score depends on the country and the visa category that you have applied for.

For example, if you are applying for an Australian PR, you need to score at least a 6 on each module (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking) to be eligible. However, a 6 on each module does not earn you any points for English proficiency. A score of 7 on each module gets you 10 points while a score of 8 on each module gets you 20 points which are the maximum.

If you are applying for studying overseas, then you should get a score as per the country and the University that you are applying for. Most Universities abroad require you to have an overall score of 6 or 6.5 to be eligible to apply.

5. What is the duration of the IELTS test?

The Reading and Writing sections are for 60 minutes each. The Speaking test takes about 11 to 14 minutes and is conducted like an interview by an examiner who assesses candidates on fluency, coherence, grammar, accuracy, and pronunciation. The examiner generally conducts the Speaking test in 3 parts and records the entire conversation.

6. What is the eligibility for the IELTS exam?

For taking the IELTS exam, your minimum age should be atleast 16 years and you must have a valid passport.

7. How do I get a good score in IELTS?

Getting a good score in the IELTS exam depends on the purpose of taking it. Suppose you are taking the test for immigration, then a good score depends on the country or visa category you have applied for. For instance, if you are applying for a PR in Australia you must score at least 6 bands in each module to be eligible to apply. Based on the score you get your points in your application. A score of 7 gives you only 10 points while a score of 8 on each module gets you 20 points.

If you have given the IELTS exam to study for a course overseas, then you should get a score that is acceptable to the country or university you are applying for. Most universities require a minimum score of 6 to 6.5 for eligibility to apply for a course.

Some general tips to get a good score are:

  • Start your preparation early, be consistent, and monitor your progress frequently.
  • Practice using your English skills in four ways-listening, speaking, reading and writing.
  • Take every opportunity to communicate in English, orally and in writing.
  • Take guidance from a professional instructor and also seek feedback on your areas of improvement.
  • Towards the end of your IELTS preparation, start practicing with full-length tests under realistic condition for several weeks before the test date.

 

8. What is the passing score of ielts?

There is no passing score for IELTS.

People often tend to say that they have “failed” the IELTS test if they do not get the desired score. However, there is no passing or failing in IELTS. Your required score depends on the purpose (immigration, study overseas etc.), country and the visa category that you are applying for.

9. What is the difference between IELTS Academic & General test?

Writing Task 2, Listening, and Speaking are the same for both IELTS Academic and IELTS general.

The only difference between the two tests is Writing Task 1 in IELTS Academic.
